Herr Buck told me like an hour before meeting a city councilman that I had to give a thank you speech in German. I was scared out of my mind, but it wasn't that bad though the guy didn't know I was thanking him when I got up and so he sat down and started talking to Mr. Buck... Beyond that awkwardness, it wasn't bad. In hindsight, I wish I had asked someone to record me and take a picture of us shaking hands cause that was actually pretty cool. Like, how many people get to shake hands with a city councilman in a foreign city? Downside to this, the Americans think my German is good and keep mentioning it when my German is terrible. The Germans were like "Er kann Deutsch sprechen!" False impressions. Ugh, talking in German is tough :(
